Autumn in New England

Two weeks ago the leaves were starting to turn...last week they reached their prime in the most beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows....this weekend they started to fall off by the thousands! Leaves everywhere! Below is the hotel parking lot. This afternoon (Sunday) I went for a drive and took some pictures of trees and leaves and country houses and more. Enjoy!

Here's a neat little country house. I especially like the front porch.

I crossed this brook and had to stop and take some pictures.

This tree was really red!

Some of the roads and lanes were almost like driving through tunnels because of all the trees.

Lots of beautiful country houses.

The woods are really thick in this area.

Lots of Canada Geese and ducks on this lake.

I drove by Connecticut College. The buildings were so cool. The campus was covered in huge old oak trees too.

Across the street from the campus was this huge park with a lake. It was fenced all the way around by a rock wall with big decorative gates.

Here's the little lake.

I really liked this orange tree so I took two pictures of it.

More orange trees...

4th of July Backpacking Trip

For 4th of July weekend this year I took Regina on her first backpacking trip. She really likes to hike and she likes camping too, but she'd never been backpacking.
We hiked the Manana Trail above Pearl City.
The Manana Trail is 12 miles round trip. It peaks out at the summit of the Ko'olau mountain range.
We had our stuff all ready and hit the trail right after church July the 4th.

It was dry on the way in. No rain, but parts of the trail were kindof slick.
Early the next morning it came in and rained for about an hour. The trail turned to grease!
It was so pleasant right after the rain that morning. We hung out for a while and just enjoyed the mountains.
At sunset on the first evening everything turned this amazing gold color. It was super cool

Taking a quick rest.
The mountains are really steep here!

What a crazy tree huh!?

We found the most amazing camp spot. They are hard to find because there aren't many level places and everything is overgrown.

Take a close look at this hillside...it's a palm tree forest! Never seen anything like it before.
Regina was really strong! I let her blaze the trail most of the time. She was a trooper. This her taking a picture of me trying to catch up!
Some of the trail was like a grassy lane.
Taking a 'pack-off' break.
Almost up to the clouds.

We had a blast. Can't wait to go again.
